School Crest, Song and Haka

School Crest

The school crest represents the storehouse of knowledge.

The pataka, the storehouse, held precious food reserves in traditional Maori settlements and nourished and enhanced the growth and strength of the community around it. In the same way, the community is part of growing, creating, collecting and sharing the knowledge with all who are part of the Aotea College community.

The school crest is worn on the school uniform today.

School Song

Taku turanga was composed by a collective effort of students and teachers in 2017. The idea of the song came from a student’s view of the landscape that sits just beyond the harbour of our small town of Porirua from our school. The name of the song, ‘taku turanga’ was also inspired by the idea that the school is a place of grounding, of foundation for the students over their 5 years as young teens. It’s a song to embrace and rejoice to showcase the solidarity and love of the school to all people!

Taku Turanga e!
