Principals Message

Kia ora e te whānau,
It was absolutely wonderful seeing so many of our families join us last week to celebrate the achievements of our students at the Senior Award Ceremonies. Your support means a great deal to our
community and our students. Our senior students have now begun their NCEA exams. We extend our very best wishes to them for success and focus during this important time.

A sincere thank you to our junior students for demonstrating respect and maturity by avoiding the exam areas, your consideration helps create the calm, focused environment our seniors need to succeed in their exams.

We are in the process of creating our junior student leadership team for the remainder of the year. We look forward to this group supporting a focussed and festive end to the school year.

Ngā mihi nui,

Jamie O’Connor
Acting Principal

Student Sign in/out procedures

No students can sign out without parental / caregiver permission.

Sick Students – in class

If a student feels unwell in class, they should inform the class teacher, who will provide them with a blue note and send them to the office. The office will assess the student and, if required, ring home to arrange for the student to be collected.

Students should not call or text parents directly; contact must always be made through the school office, so we are aware of students leaving.

Absent Students – sick, appointments, etc

Parents/caregivers can ring the school office and leave a message or email our absentee line at absences@aotea.school.nz. If students have an appointment etc, as notified by parents, the office will send a slip to the student’s class and have them sign out at the office at the appropriate time.

NOTE: Parents and students should be aware that if they sign in or out on the IPAD without notifying the office staff, the attendance will remain unjustified.

Leavers Clearance Day – 5 December

Clearance day is the day for all year 13 students and any students leaving Aotea College in 2025 to come and fill out a clearance form, collect any certificates, pick up your yearbook, return any sports uniforms, return your school device and any library books etc. Students can come in anytime between 9am and 4pm on this day. Students are also able to do this before clearance day if you are not collecting a yearbook. Just come to the office and request your orange leavers form and get it signed off by the appropriate departments.
