College Caretaker

Full time - Grade 2


Aotea College is looking to appoint a permanent full time Caretaker to join our property team to assist us to provide a great physical learning environment for our students. The position is 40 hours per week all year round. You will need the necessary skills to undertake school maintenance work and minor construction as well as a willingness to turn your hand to anything. As part of the property team you will assist the groundskeeper in continually improving and maintaining our large grounds. The property team maintain the security of the school and you will be required to be part of the on call roster responding to security and emergencies issues as they arise.


As our college is undergoing major redevelopment, the successful candidate will require initiative, the ability to self manage as well as assist the entire property team. You will need the ability and flexibility to respond to the unexpected, and a willingness to ensure the successful operation of the college during this challenging time.


Your experience and work ethic will be key to this role, along with being an excellent communicator (both written and oral) with a sense of humour and the ability to solve problems.


The ideal candidate will be:

●     experienced in facilities and property maintenance

●     able to undertake minor building and repair tasks

●     physically fit and capable.

●     able to carry out grounds maintenance, including mowing, scrub cutting etc

●     able to work both independently and as part of a team

●     committed to safe work practices, and have a clean, full drivers licence


To be successful in this role you will need to undergo a police and safety check as required under the Vulnerable Children’s Act.
