Tributes, messages of support and a special assembly tomorrow.
We acknowledge the fifty deaths of New Zealanders killed while at prayer on Friday, in their mosques. Today we will fly the flag at half- mast out of respect for those who have died. We acknowledge the heroic efforts of those who caught the terrorist, those who saved the lives of others and those who are still tending to the wounded and grief stricken.
New Zealand is a small country and many of us have connections with people closely affected and even more people have reacted with enormous compassion and love to ensure the hatred of one person does not prevail in our country. Flowers will be laid by student leaders from across the four Porirua secondary schools tomorrow at our local mosque. From today, messages of support from Hui Ako and other classes will accompany the flowers.
We ask everyone to please take time to be kind to each other and look after friends, family, teachers and fellow students as we work through the days in front of us. These are the actions that will define us as individuals, a community and as a country.
